Strange Gourds (more commonly referred to as simply Gourds) are one of the main collectibles in The Sims 2. They're small, green vegetables which strongly resemble pears. Until the Prime Heifer is destroyed at the end of Ava Cadavra's story arc, the only thing the player can do with Gourds is sell them at the Saloon. Once the Egyptian Statue replaces the Prime Heifer in the Bovine Shrine, it's revealed that Gourds must be given to the statue in order to keep Horus Menhoset IX active and sane.

Spawning[]

Like Nuclear Fuel Rods, Gourds can be found around town and in the Desert, and will re-spawn randomly throughout the day. They re-spawn every time the game is opened, leading many players to simply save and restart their game repeatedly in order to spawn more to sell. Gourds and Nuclear Fuel Rods share the same spawn points, and they have an equal chance of spawning at any given point. The spawn locations for both are as follows:

  • Various points around the Desert, including the desert oasis
  • Next to the sign at the edge of Strangetown
  • In the cow field
  • Next to the Jail
  • On the median in the Town Square
  • Next to the Saloon
  • Next to the Store
  • Near the back door of the Hotel
  • Various points in both the center and perimeter of the Atrium
  • Near the bottom of the stairs in the Basement

Not every spawn point will yield Gourds or Fuel Rods when they re-spawn, but a majority will. Both Fuel Rods and Gourds can be given to the player as gifts from other sims when the player calms them down, cheers them up, restrains them, or romances them.
